Wales' Leading Training Provider for B+E (Car andTrailer) Test
We are one of the few totally locally based Pembrokeshire Training Providers that totally specialises in all types of trailer towing training. The owner Simon Jones is a DSA (Driving Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructor, ex Police trained driver and a Lantra Awards Off Road 4x4 Professional with many years experience in the driving training industry. We are members of the Driving Instrucors Association (DIA) and National Trailer Towing Association.
Our establishment provides trailer-towing training for the B+E car and trailer
test, trailer handling and awareness courses, and for those who already have
the entitlement but have little or no experience of towing trailers/caravans/horse
boxes/boat trailers. Individual or group training available and courses are
structured to suit your individual needs.
We are a Registered Training Provider with Farming Connect and Lantra for
those in the Farming Community with holding numbers who require funding for
Courses. As of 1st January 2010, 80% funding is available for those registered
with Farming Connect, for the farming community via Lantra.
Why do you need to take B+E test?
If you passed your test after the 1st January 1997 and the maximum authorised mass (MAM - maximum potential weight of the trailer and its contents as shown in the manufacturers book or plate) of the trailer is under 750kg then the answer is "No".
If however the MAM of the trailer is over 750kg you need to take the test if the following combinations apply: Either the combined MAM of the car and trailer exceeds 3500kg (3.5 tonnes) or the MAM of the trailer is greater than the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, then the answer is "Yes".
If you are not sure then dont hesitate to contact us because if you do not have the entitlement then your insurance will be invalid. If you do not have the entitlement and are towing large trailers and are prosecuted the penalty is 9 points on your licence and up to a £1000 fine. If you have been banned from driving you will have lost your entitlement.
We provide:
- 1 day, B+E course, which consists of 1x3 1/2 hours with test in afternoon, for those who have recently failed a B+E test
- 2 days, B+E course, which consists of 1x7hours with meal break and 1x3 ½ hours test PM. (If you have some experience of towing and reversing trailers then this course is usually sufficient)
- 1-2-1 training only for B+E Courses (except those attending trailer handling courses, then groups most welcome). The first training day (7 Hrs including refreshment break) could be split up into two 3 hour sessions on a 1-2-1 basis then a 3 1/2 hour session and test in the afternoon.
- For drivers who have little or no experience of towing or trailer reversing, a 3- 4 day course is advisable and their test will be conducted in the afternoon of the last day.
An assessment, covering off road manouvres and on road driving is available to give you an honest assessment of how much training you will need and what areas you will need to work on to reach test standard. You will then have a choice, practice with your own vehicle and trailer and return for further assessment when ready or carry out the full training with us by the hour to suit your budget and timescale
