B+E COURSES
You must be aged 17 and above and hold a full driving licence (Category B)
If you have some experience of towing and reversing trailers generally a full 2 day course is advisable. You will take your test on the afternoon of the 2nd training day. Through experience it is advisable to allow a gap of 5-7 days between your first training day and the second. This break will help you to brush up on your driving skills to the level required on the test ( most candidates who fail do so because their on road driving is not up to test standard, too many bad habits have crept in!!!!).
We offer 1-2-1 training only for B+E Courses, unlike large Training Providers/LGV/HGV Training Companies who are usually very keen to team you up with another candidate. These courses are not cheap so we wish to provide you with the best possible training on a 1-2-1 basis and in our experience, this method of training is best, though maybe not for our bank balance!!
If however you have little or no experience of towing or reversing trailers a 3-4 course is advisable, taking your test on the afternoon of the last day.Courses can be tailored to suit your individual needs and experience by the hour to suit your budget and timescale.
If you are not sure how much training you will need then an free assessment is available, covering off road manouvres and on road driving which will give you an honest assessment of how much training you will need to reach test standard.
All the tools, information and training are provided for you to pass your test the rest is up to you!!!!
CARAVANS/BOAT TRAILERS
If you passed your test before 1st January 1997 you are entitled to drive any vehicle and trailer combination up to 8250kg total weight, of which towing vehicles maximum weight must not exceed 7500kg
If you passed your test after 1st January 1997 you are restricted to driving or towing with a car with a maximum weight of 3500kg a trailer up to just 750kg. This would rule out most UK caravans however there is a clause that allows you to tow with a car and trailer weight not exceeding 3500kg, only if the maximum permissible weight of the trailer does not exceed the towcar. This covers some of the smaller caravans but some of the larger ones comfortably exceed it, especially if towed by 4X4 vehicles which is the trend these days. If this is the case you need to take your B+E test or you run the risk of 9 penalty points, a fine and your insurance is invalid. If you are not sure then please contact us and we will be pleased to offer advice.
If you have the entitlement on your licence and are new to caravans, trailers or boat trailers and wish to gain confidence in towing and reversing then courses can be tailored to suit your individual needs ie it may be that you require to gain confidence in reversing before taking your outfit out on the road.We have use of an extensive off road area on a disused airfield away from prying eyes!!
